Projects

The tribals of Melghat have been long neglected by the state and its people. Lack of medical facilities and their superstitious practice of going to traditional healers have been the most important reasons for very high infant mortality and premature death of adults as well. Moved by their very backward circumstances, ignorance and apathy of the system, the first project of MAHAN, Hospital and Critical Care Unit was started in Melghat in 1997 with the help of Kasturba Health Society, Sewagram.

The key projects of MAHAN are: -

Home Based Child Care

In this program trained tribal women Village Health Worker (VHW) are saving lives of under 5 years age children. It has reduced child deaths and malnutrition by more than 50%.

Hospital and Critical Care Unit

MAHAN has established a hospital in partnership with Kasturba Health Society, Sewagram which has a well equipped OPD, Indoor, Operation Theater & Critical Care Unit. It has saved hundreds of serious patients.

UMANG

Due to deaddiction program-'UMANG' (meditation, yoga and behavior change communication, Village level prevention (gaon bandi), de-addiction campaigning, counseling, sport club,etc ) hundreds of people stopped alcohol and tobacco consumption.
